A trip to Innsbruck

Our last day of vacation, we decided to take a day trip to Innsbruck, Austria for the only Christmas Market around in mid-Nov. We loved the ease of the train system, crossing an international border and not even knowing it, and enjoying the beautiful views along the way.

Innsbruck wasn't quite what we were expecting, but we realized we were really just spoiled from the awesomeness of Garmisch. Garmisch is a beautiful little ski town (kind of like Vail) and Innsbruck was a real city, with a somewhat grungy train station and people from all walks of life wandering the streets. At the market, we enjoyed some Gluhwein (mulled wine), and the kids tasted the Austrian treat Kiachln (fried dough with powdered sugar, not unlike a large beignet). But the big hit was the cotton candy. We wandered the narrow streets and lamented that our vacation was coming to an end. You'll notice how Oscar is only wearing a sweatshirt the whole time. We did have all his winter stuff with us in the stroller, but he was fueled by his inner furnace.

Another fantastic shot of Harry.
Yet again, he was completely chill in the carrier but the look on his face in this one says it all.

The next day we began our odyssey home. The train line was being worked on over the weekend so we had the added fun of taking an additional bus in the middle of our train rides... So after a bus, a train, a bus, a train, a subway, 2 airplanes, and a taxi we made it home. An amazing family vacation all around! We definitely traveled at a good time with Harry, since he's on the move now and would've been much less tolerant of all the sitting and hanging around. Dada may have a few more trips before we leave, but the kids and I are staying put until we leave Nairobi next summer. No official news yet on where we'll be next, but all signs are pointing to the DC area. Renovations on our house are underway and with any luck we'll all fit in it when we arrive!
