Early December Snow

We've only had a few dustings so far this winter, but the kids have taken full advantage of each one. Maybe January will bring a real snow day our way?!

And the Christmas performances by Livi's 3rd grade class. She's front and center next to the music stand. Oscar even made it from work! The reality of public school performances in the good old US is that the multi-purpose-room (aka gym or auditorium) isn't big enough to fit parents and students, so the kids only came in for their songs and missed the performances of all the other classes! I miss ISK and their musical program just a little bit...

18-19 months old

Harry turned 18 months in November, and as a third child I had to google which milestones he should be meeting.... and he's doing just fine! All the credit for this goes to his big brother and sister, his prime motivation for everything.

Physically he's off the charts. The main concern I have is how young he is, he doesn't quite have a sense of self preservation and trusts you will be there to catch him. As a result, I'm a bit of a shadow as we go throughout our day, particularly on our stairs and everything else he climbs.

Verbally he's great. He repeats a lot of words that you say and is starting to combine them now. His first 2 word combo was "Coco poopoo." That's a little sad since Coco lives in Texas now, but was still pretty cute when it came out.

While not a complete list some of his words he says on his own are: up, uh-oh, wee, Hi, by-bye, Coco, Happy, Mama, Dada, have, and Zoom! Zoom is a favorite word and is used for essentially any vehicle. In particular, he has a scoop truck that he carries around. Along with doggie it's essential for getting him to go to sleep these days!

A few more words that have just come in the past few weeks that I find particularly cute are:
Goggles (swim goggles), Ah-car (Oscar), Livi, Ha-wee (Harry...he says this instead of "me"), Nani (nana), boots (snow or rain), bubbles (bath bubbles and sparkling water). He also finally started saying the word "no." For as strong as his personality is, he says it very quietly and with a shake of the head.

He doesn't sign "more" as much as he used to, but has this cute little guinea pig sound he makes when he wants something. He does still sign "please" though and we encourage him to keep using that one!
signing "more" airplanes!

He's started giving more kisses, and likes to use it as a delay tactic for when people are either leaving he house or when it's time for bed.

He's had his fair share of tantrums over the past few months, and also does some biting and hitting. He seems to be getting better, but the teeth still come out when he's mad or trying to get attention. He gets mini-time outs when he bites or hits and fingers crossed it gets through and his twos are not so terrible. The tantrums also seem to be subsiding a bit, and I'm hoping as his verbal communication moves along his behavior will continue to improve as well. The funniest tantrums he's had recently are when playing with his magnetic trains. Every time they come apart he gets super upset, especially if he's tired. I've tried to calmly explain that's the whole point, but that hasn't quite connected yet...we're avoiding those at sleepy times for now!

He's extremely social and will either wave hello and goodbye to people on the street or blow kisses depending on his mood.

He snaps and loves to dance. Here he is jamming to Harrison's favorite tune in Austin, with some acrobatics by Charlie thrown in:

Ever curious, he is very happy when there is a job to be done and he can help. Especially if it involves any kind of tool.

Dangling at the playground.

Storytime with Livi

Asking Dragon for kisses

Rearranging the bricks that were pulled up for our new gas line...hopefully they'll fix that before the spring!

About to do something he shouldn't...

As soon as you walk in the door he heads right to the stairs. If the gate isn't closed he makes it more than halfway up before you can get to him!
Ready for snow!

Family fun

While we went to Austin under difficult circumstances, but the time we had with the family while we were there was wonderful.
Harry played in an old exersaucer Missy found in the attic.
He used it more than he ever did when he had one in Kenya!
One day Missy drove us to Enchanted Rock and we took a nice hike in the 80 degree weather, followed by yummy pizza in Fredericksburg. While Livi was a little out of her comfort zone with the rock climbing, the rest of the kiddos loved it.

After the hike...can you tell who isn't thrilled?
We had a few more days to spend together which included a ladies shopping and lunch trip and a boys video game extravaganza. And of course lots of snuggle time with Nana!
A girls shopping adventure
snuggling in Harrison's bed
brotherly love
And a few days later, it was snowing!! We never thought we had potential to get snowed in in Austin, but some snow arrived the evening before we were leaving. It was a very special treat and some snow balls were even made!

We made it out fine the next morning, but the snow did follow us home to VA...
