Oscar's Big Day

So why was it Oscar's first day of school and I feel like a nervous wreck? We're home now and he's in his room "not sleeping" (although hopefully will be soon...). He did great! He looked like such a big boy with his cute little backpack and big boy haircut. Here's a few pictures we took. A few parents were total paparazzi, but with our camera shy boy a few was plenty to at least capture the day and not freak him out before the day even started. His teacher is awesome, full of energy and she seemed like a lot of fun. He got a little worried when everyone lined up to wash hands and had a few mommy moments. But once that was done and they sat down to breakfast, Oscar and I went to say goodbye. First he said he didn't want me to leave, but then kind of thought about it and said, "That's OK Mama." Too cute and even though I was nervous all morning, he seems like he had a blast! Good vibes for tomorrow - and the rest of the school year! I can't even imagine his face when they have their first school bus field trip! :)

Oh, and to top it off he had a big boy poop in the potty!!! A truly big day for our sweet little boy.

Buffalo Recap

Oh where to begin??? Somehow a ton of things have happened in the past 2 weeks. We just got back from Buffalo where we had a wonderful time with Nanee and Dadee, with a bonus visit from Ria and a cameo by Gordy! Oscar had a blast of course. Here are a few highlights:
-Playing at the playground on the corner complete with a BIG sandbox with lots of trucks and scoops
-visiting Gigi's house and taking apart her toy room
-Discovering toys in Nanee's toy room
-Visits to the zoo - riding on the train and carosel, plus seeing the anaconda actually on the move!
-Playing with Sam and his basement of toys (note the theme)
-Sailing, and even having a turn on the tiller with grandad on watch

Olivia is doing awesome as well. Still not the best sleeper, but now that we're home I'm working on that one. A little Ferberizing and having her sleep upstairs so she doesn't bother Oscar's much needed sleep! Last night went pretty well actually. She's funny because she does the cry where you can tell she's listening for you to see if you're coming... smart cookie! She's also growing in leaps and bounds physically...she's definitely not a babbler but man that little girl can move! In a few short weeks she's gone from sitting up, to pretty much all over the place! She's not crawling yet, but she can maneuver herself around enough to get across the floor in a relatively short time period with some face-plant wrestler moves (as grandad likes to call them) combined with some fancy pivoting. Today she's also figured out how to pull herself to stand. Let's just say she may be the daredevil in the family. Oscar is so cautious trying new things and this woman just goes! :)

Here's a few photos....more to follow!

A week of firsts

Aside from Olivia sitting, we've had a big week here in Grajales-land. For Olivia, first foods AND the first time I found her on her tummy in the morning in her crib:

And for Oscar....first big boy haircut (still in his camera shy stage though)! Big Oscar still hasn't forgiven me :) but we've compromised to long hair winters and short hair summers (at least until little Oscar starts to express his opinion!):

And some shots from around town this past weekend:

She sits!

Ah, the milestones that are so important in a little one's life, but quickly fade away into "Now when did they do that again?" Maybe it's just me and my horrendous memory, but the only reason I know when Oscar first sat, ate, and stood are because of pictures! I guess those bazillion digital photos do come in handy... :) Well, a picture says a thousand words, or maybe just a few..Olivia is sitting! (Well, mostly.) She can do it, but she's definitely a little shaky and the pillow in back makes a huge difference. She prefers it now to any position (aside from being held of course), and the bouncy seat has gone to the wayside since she hates reclining and has no problem voicing her opinion!

Little Oscar was a bit less thrilled than I was, but was very excited about the trip to Home Depot to buy sand for his sandbox that followed (a trip that's sadly been in the works for over a month - I just realized last week there was a store only 5 minutes from here...). Hopefully I'll get to putting the sand into the sandbox sooner rather than later and I'll have some pictures of us hanging out in the yard and digging to follow!
We made brownies together when we got back, which was an added bonus. He's a very good stirrer and pourer...although patience is a virtue we're still waiting for! I think we've got a while to go on that one though...Alls well that ends well, and he proclaimed "It's a good day!" with a big smile on his face with a plate of warm brownies and milk in front of him when they were finally ready to enjoy. I would've taken a picture, but he's become quite camera shy recently. I guess those bazillion photos had their effect.... :)
