As part of preparing the kids for the IB program in high school (a bit early!), Oscar's school has a 5th grade Capstone project that takes over all of their subjects for a few months. The project culminates in a presentation for all the parents. There's a huge emphasis on it and Oscar was even nervous about it after watching the presentation from the fifth graders last year. He did an amazing job and he's so happy it's over!!
The general topic was human rights, and Oscar chose the Dadaab refugee camp as his focus. The whole class did a presentation for parents first, and then each student stood by their posters and talked about what they learned to parents and students that came by.

Watch for Oscar and his British accent...
Oscar made an awesome poster with information he researched and learned from his interview of a Foreign Service officer at the Embassy who works with refugees (she also went to City Honors). He also had a great presentation that started with asking what you thought refugees lived in and had you draw a picture of what you thought it looked like. He then went on to explain the living conditions and facts about the camp. We were so proud of him!
