Special visitors and Mardi Gras begins!

Look closely for Oscar - he's trying to make eye contact
so people will give him stuff
Nanee was a little late arriving, but we made up for lost time during the weekend! While we were waiting for her plane to come in, the kids and I went to check out the first night parade in our area, Cleopatra. The float riders were feeling generous while they were waiting to roll…
He was successful!
We loved the horns from the Malificent float!!
You can tell Livi was a little under the weather from her cold and cough
Nanee came in after the parade was over, and Daria and Elly arrived the next morning. We kicked off our weekend festivities with a trip to the zoo, and the weather was perfect for walking around and hanging in the trees.

Saturday night we got to introduce Elly, Daria, and Nanee to their first Mardi Gras parade. I was too busy catching things to take a lot of pictures but Pygmalion didn't disappoint! The crowds are much thinner the first weekend and it's still my favorite time for Mardi Gras.

Livi's on Dada's shoulders, and Elly, Daria, Mom and me are watching her grab some loot!
Elly quickly figured out the workings of the parade and used them to get some more loot on Sunday! There was a 4 parade line up staging in our neighborhood, and while Livi and I chilled at home for the first 2 (still a bit under the weather), we all headed out for the 3rd and got some great pictures as the crowd thinned out a bit.

We're ready!!!
Balloons galore for Elly's birthday mini-celebration
(these were giggle-y popped later in the day by Elly and Livi sitting and laying on them…)
Throw me something mister!
Already a Mardi Gras expert
Half the fun is watching the bands and dancers (well, maybe for the adults)
 Elly couldn't stop dancing!
all 3 kiddos getting ready for more
The whole family in the spirit!
