Two days after we got back from the cruise, Oscar noticed a blister on his toe. We decided to keep an eye on it since it wasn't hurting him and we assumed it was from wearing his flip flops the whole time. Within 24 hours it had doubled in size and it was clear this puppy wasn't going away. We landed in the doctors office, followed by a trip to the ER at Children's Hospital for a culture. While definitely not thrilled to be dealing with it, Oscar was a trooper (see below) and our first trip to the ER was relatively painless. It was mid-week in the middle of the day so timing was right and stars were aligned. Less then an hour later we were out the door and armed with a 10 day course of antibiotics…and then the real fun began! Oscar is not a big fan of medicine, and the Clindamycin (and then the Augmentin we switched to) were less than fun to take. It turned out to be a staph infection (not MRSA) and with only a low grade fever the biggest deal was making sure he took all of this medicine. He made it through, and we perfected our own regimen - spoonful of honey, followed by the medicine, with a lemonade chaser. Yum!

He was feeling pretty down about it all, and wasn't really in the mood for outings (he couldn't wear a shoe even for a few days), so we bided our time with some indoor crafts and school shopping trips. While he definitely wasn't his cheerful self that week, I think he did manage to enjoy riding around in the shopping carts and all of the piggyback rides…

Once Oscar was up and at 'em again, we headed around town to see the sights before school started the following week. First up, the Children's museum. We actually hadn't been there since we first moved to here last August and the kids had fun rediscovering the exhibits.
Last outing of the summer - The Insectarium! Oscar and I went once last year, but this was Livi's and Dada's first trip.
